Happy New Year! Once again, Peter Pap Oriental Rugs will be participating in the prestigious Winter Antiques Show this month in New York City. I've been exhibiting in the Winter Show since 1993, and every year I look forward to being in the company of some of the best art and antiques dealers in the world during the ten-day run of the show.

This is the Winter Antiques Show's 58th year and, as always, it will be held at the distinguished Park Avenue Armory. The show will be open January 20-29th, 2012, and our booth is #46.

As in years past, the show has organized a loan exhibition. This year's loan exhibit is titled Celebrating Historic Hudson Valley at 60: Rockefeller Patronage in Sleepy Hollow Country. Guest lecturers will speak about the collection and the organization's historical significance.

The proceeds of the Winter Antiques Show benefit East Side House Settlement, which offers a variety of social services and educational programs to those living in the Mott Haven section of the South Bronx, one of the poorest congressional districts in America. Folk Art in New York

As you may know, in addition to our two locations in San Francisco, and Dublin, NH, Peter Pap Oriental Rugs also has a venue at 1stdibs@NYDC. This is a collective space where we, along with 55 other antiques and decorative arts dealers, keep a revolving collection of our merchandise. We generally carry about 50 rugs there, and the 1stdibs galleries provide a convenient place for our clients to see our rugs in New York.

From January 24th through February 25th, 1stdibs will be holding a special exhibition/sale of antique American folk art in their New York Design Center galleries.

Val Hird Painting Exhibition and Talk

It has been over twelve years since I joined forces with my dear friend, painter Valerie Hird, and installed a joint exhibition at the School of Visual Arts in New York. This show was called Nomadic Connections, and you can see images of her paintings from the exhibition here: www.valeriehird.com/nomadic.html. Val's paintings and my village and nomadic rugs were wonderfully symbiotic. The exhibition later traveled to my San Francisco gallery for our clients on the west coast to attend.

Val's painting style has gone through many changes since then, but she has come back around to paintings that are again sympathetic to a rug aesthetic. We are pleased to have two rugs on display in her upcoming exhibition, The Fifth Day, at the Nohra Haime gallery in New York. I'll also be bringing a few additional rugs to her show on Thursday, January 26th at 6:00, and will give an informal hands-on talk about them that evening.
