Baluch
DESCRIPTION:

Columns of quartered abstracted leaves alternating with tribal ashik forms are drawn in two shades each of blue and red across the camel field of this Baluch rug from northeastern Persia. White is used sparingly and adeptly to create an additional diagonal layer to the composition, which is reinforced by a striped border. Indeed, the skill of the weaver may be seen in the flow of this repeat border design throughout three of the four corners. This is not an easy task and takes some forethought. Why the bottom right corner was not rendered in the same way is interesting to consider and may perhaps speak more to our expectations than to the mindset of the weaver.
