Bidjar

c. 1900
Persia
DESCRIPTION:

Bidjar weavings are known both for their thick depressed weave and their fineness of execution. This smaller Bidjar rug is a veritable gem. Deep madder red, a medium blue, rose, gold, green, and perfect white accents shimmer against an indigo ground. The field is drawn with a smaller scale rendering of the repeat"Herati pattern," which renders foliage and blossoms organized around rosettes. The border uses a classic Persian linked palmette design first popularized in the 16th century. This is a favorite type used among Bidjar weavers, and it is executed with a gold point counterpoint at the top and bottom. Property of a California owner.
