This iconic Afshar bag displays a central diamond with an inner quatrefoil, which is composed of four flower heads with distinct serrated petals. This classic Afshar design originates in a repeat pattern of the same elements within a lattice. Here the floral lattice has been adapted to form the contours of the central diamond. Drawn in a highly abstracted but evocative manner, stylized rose bushes grow from each corner. Parviz Tanavoli, 'Afshar: Tribal Weavers from Southeast Iran' (Tehran: MATN, 2010), pg. 150, pl. 75.
