Oriental Rugs, Vintage Rugs, and Antique Rugs by Peter Pap

Kurdish

c. 1900
Northwest Persia
DESCRIPTION:

Woven in the Kurdish region of western Persia, this handsome long rug draws an open lobed medallion and corner pieces against a natural camel ground. This simple, elegant composition is a local village interpretation of a more formal Persian workshop design. The modulation of tone within the camel field sets the mood for this piece. Pleasant hues of natural rose-madder and sky-blue indigo, particularly within the borders, are successfully integrated and provide just a hint of contrast.
