CONDITION:
Because their format is limited to a long and narrow proportion, runners are often seen as more decorative and utilitarian than collectible. This colorful Shahsevan runner is a distinct exception. Drawn with spacious scale, it is anything but repetitive. Geometric quatrefoil devices, of the type seen in both Shahsevan and Kurdish tribal weaving from northwest Persia, are drawn in a 'split-gul' column formation against a saturated madder red ground. Vibrant green, yellow, and blues are used throughout the rug, which is highlighted with a wonderfully effective use of white.
