This classic camel ground 'soffreh,' or presentation cloth, is the work of Baluch weavers from the Khorosan province in eastern Persia. The field is comprised of slit tapestry weave with a solitary cruciform device woven in sumak technique. The borders are likewise executed in sumak, drawing latch hook devices within octagons. This camel ground format is a favorite among several tribal groups across Persia. However, in this piece the choice of borders and execution is quintessentially Baluch.
