This exceptional sumak weaving from the Hashtrud-Miyaneh area of Persian Azerbaijan displays a graphic dynamism rarely, if ever, surpassed by other mafrash side panels. Drawn with a perfect large scale, octagons centered with evocative geometric latch-hook motifs alternate with boxes centered with iconic cruciform devices. White cotton adds an extra level of contrast and refinement. John Wertime, "Sumak Bags of Northwest Persia and Transcaucasia" (London: HALI Publications, 1998), plate 48.
