Ning Hsia

Late 19th C
China
DESCRIPTION:

Dragons are a favorite theme of Chinese decorative and fine art, and rugs are no exception. This charming Ningxia rug draws two playful dragons on either side of a stylized 'vajra, or 'dorje,' a stylized Tantric Buddhist thunderbolt symbolizing enlightenment. The borders alternate two variants of the Chinese 'shu' sign, which represents good fortune and prosperity.
