Imbued with spectacular color, this Caucasian prayer rug draws rows of the iconic paisleys that define the Marasali type. These multi-colored 'boteh' devices are illuminated against a deep indigo ground. While the mihrab arch preserves the classic drawing of the earlier 'Black Marasali' group, the main border used here is a classic Shirvan serrated 'S' variant. The rug's wool pile is softer and the weave is finer than in most related examples; thus, this prayer rug has a wonderful handle.
