This iconic Konya area kilim draws a field of elongated and highly evocative cartouches against a madder-red ground with excellent large scale drawing. Borders are minimal with well-spaced panels drawing both bands of reciprocal pendants and geometric ashik elements at the top and bottom ends. While the distinctive field layout seen here is not unique, it represents an earlier type of drawing more frequently seen on white grounded kilims of central Anatolia. This red variant is encountered far less frequently.
