Stepped rays of vivid color surround the central diamond medallion of this vibrant Afshar bag face. As a prominent terra cotta color is paired with complimentary hues of indigo in the field, geometric elements are balanced with floral components in the border and center. However, it is the diagonal striations of blue, green, yellow, orange, and white surrounding the central medallion that distinguish this piece. This is a compelling example of tribal Afshar textile art. Eiland, Murray (ed.) Oriental Rugs from Pacific Collections. San Francisco: SFBARS, 1990. pg. 82, pl. 53. Tanavoli, Parviz.
