Great ivory ground rugs of any genre convey a unique refined elegance. This small Afshar draws rows of simple but stately ‘boteh’ paisleys oriented in horizontal and diagonal rows. These boteh glow against the ivory background. Geometric guard borders reinforce the horizontal orientation of the piece, as alternating red and blue iris heads are linked in the central border. This rug conveys all the refinement of a fine Persian textile, expertly executed in wool pile.
