This finely woven Afshar sumak salt bag draws rows of elegant eight-pointed stars within white cotton octagons. The burgundy, blues, greens and gold of the stars are amplified by the contrast of this white cotton. With the small scale of drawing in this piece, each individual element seems to glimmer, and the true ground color becomes quite ambivalent.
