Woven with soft lustrous wool of the type for which great Baluch rugs are renowned, this Baluchi scatter rug draws a field of a highly articulated and detailed large-scale asmalyk design derived from Turkmen weaving. This rug has an exceptional sense of movement. Indeed, the graphically dynamic border likewise reinterprets the so-called ‘Turkmen-line border’ variant. Structurally, this piece relates to the more tightly wefted Khorosan Baluch type of which many ‘minakhani’ designed Baluchis belong. Its soft and supple nature are therefore even more remarkable. Knots of insect-dyed magenta silk highlight the field.
