Bessarabian Kilim

This flat-woven Bessarabian rug was woven using the kilim or tapestry weave technique in the north-western area of the Black Sea just after the turn of the century. Based on French prototypes it employs a more rustic aesthetic with charming large-scale drawing on an unusually small sized piece. We have two or three other examples like this.
