Using a visually dynamic repeat pattern with perfect scale, colorful jagged triangular forms create similar reciprocal elements from the dark ground of this Kazak rug. Together these elements along with those formed from negative space interact like a tessellating jigsaw puzzle. Colorful primary colors along with green and white illuminate against the dark walnut ground. Indeed, the natural corrosion of the ground adds a sculptural affect which furthers the contrast of foreground and background. The graphic geometric motifs seen in this piece are quite unusual and may have their origin in Caucasian and Northwest Persian sumak weaving.
