A high-style rug from a workshop in the Caucasus, woven in the ‘Belle Epoque’ era. In the late 19th century, there was a significant movement among rug workshops in the Caucasus and Persia to produce rugs that would have a great appeal in the European market. Savonnerie and Aubusson rugs and tapestries were already well established and an intense desire to gain some market share drove this aesthetic movement.
