Kazak rugs are renowned for their graphic boldness, soft lustrous wool pile, and pure vibrant color. This Lambalo type Kazak draws a multiplicity of rosette borders surrounding a narrow madder-red ground field. The column of three large segmented octagons punctuated by dots within the section along with the main border of abstracted and geometricized flowering vine-scroll define the Lambalo type. These pieces were woven in the central Caucasus in what is now southeastern Georgia. Indeed, this example has two inscriptions a t both sides of the upper field in a script that may be either Armenian or Georgian.
