Qashqai

The Qashqai nomads of southwestern Persia are master weavers, known largely for their saddlebags and domestic weavings. Larger pieces such as this carpet, however, are by no means unheard of, though slightly more unusual. Using the soft quality wool for which the group is known, the field combines the drawing and weaving of a Qashqai bagface but with greater scale. The alternating peach and pistachio medallions are drawn against a deep indigo ground surrounded by a forest of stylized trees interspersed with animals.
