Tekke main carpet
Excellent original condition
Purchased from Peter Pap Oriental Rugs Inc. c. 1990 The estate of Mr. Frank Marshall, Milton, VT
This classic Tekke Turkmen main carpet from Central Asia draws a configuration of quartered ‘guls’ alternating with cruciform ‘ghurbagheh’ or ‘frog’ type minors. This piece is longer than most of its type with twelve rows of four quartered guls. The knotted pile is plush with a velvet handle. The borders of this piece are reminiscent of tent-bands woven by the Turkmen.
