This beautifully embroidered coat was woven by the Tekke tribe of the Turkmen of Central Asia. Abstract floral repeats as well as purely geometric patterns are embroidered with both cochineal red and yellow colored silk floss. A chirpy is a Turkmen woman’s coat. It is thought that the black grounded variant was worn by a mature women of status.
